There is no single whole-site backup. Export the books you actually use, and verify each restoration before clearing the source browser.
Understand where the records live
Numbrite’s local books are saved in the browser profile for a particular site origin. The English and Chinese pages on the same origin share them. Another browser, device, profile, protocol or host name does not automatically share that storage. A blank book on a new phone is therefore not proof that the old data was deleted.
MDN documents the origin-specific nature of localStorage and its special limits for private sessions and file URLs. Use the canonical HTTPS website for normal use. A directly opened local HTML file is not a reliable cross-browser storage or migration method, and private-mode records should not be relied on after that private session closes.

Match the export to the book you need
The home page’s My tools and backups export contains favorites, recent tools and saved home-loan/EPF plans. Cashflow exports contain saved monthly records. Bill exports contain payday/currency settings, bills and payment history. DividenNote full JSON contains its opening holdings, trades, dividends and saved receipt checks, quotes and journal settings. A holdings, trades or receipt-report CSV is not the full JSON substitute.
DividenNote’s downloaded public-reference FX cache is separate from that JSON. Historical settlement rates stored on transactions or receipt checks are part of those records; the current reference-rate cache is not. A recovered journal can therefore need an FX refresh before showing a complete cross-currency summary. Unsaved form edits are not promised in any export.
Export before replacing anything
Save any edits you actually want to keep, then export each used book separately. Give files names that preserve the tool and export date; keep an untouched copy outside the browser you plan to clear. Check that the download really exists and is not an empty file. Do not rename one tool’s JSON to another tool’s name and expect its contents to change.
The practice checklist lists four files with known contents. Restoring those examples can replace your personal records, so first export the real book and use a separate test browser profile where possible. Do not clear the original browser or overwrite your only backup just to see whether recovery works.
| Backup | Contains | Does not replace |
|---|---|---|
| My tools | Favorites, recent tools, loan/EPF plans | Other financial books |
| Cashflow | Saved monthly records | Bills or DividenNote |
| Bill reserves | Bills, settings, payment history | Cashflow or portfolio |
| DividenNote full JSON | Journal, receipts, quotes, settings | Other books or live FX cache |
Follow one complete practice restoration
Start with the bill practice file in the bill tool, not DividenNote. Preview the three bills and MYR currency, confirm replacement only in the practice book, then set review date 2026-10-28 and payday 28. Verify three bills, zero reserved cash, zero payment history and RM700 required per payday. Export the recovered book again and keep it as a new file.
For DividenNote, the three-trade practice JSON should show 150 remaining shares, USD1,653 cost and USD11.02 average. Its hypothetical saved price is USD13, not live data. The cashflow file has one October 2026 MYR record, income RM4,000, spending RM2,800 and surplus RM1,200. The saved-tools file has one bill-planner favorite and no saved calculation plans.
A preview and a download are different checks
A file passing the format parser shows it can be read by the current tool. A restore confirmation shows you authorized replacement. The useful acceptance check is whether the records you intended are present and their key calculations agree. Compare quantities, markets/currencies, dates, costs and one receipt or bill result rather than only a headline total.
The practice files have passed shipped-model validation and automated interface simulations. This article has no real mobile or cross-device browser test and no fabricated screenshots. Treat the steps as a reproducible procedure to verify on your own target browser, not a certification that every device or browser privacy setting behaves identically.
If the new browser stays empty or cannot save
Check the file type, the tool you opened and the exact site address first. Confirm you exported saved data from the original browser. If there is a stale-tab warning, preserve any needed backup and reload rather than forcing an overwrite. Bill and DividenNote safe writes need supported browser capabilities over a secure context; a read-only notice is not a successful restore.
If a cross-currency portfolio total is blank, inspect missing quotes and reference FX separately from record counts. Do not replace missing prices with zero just to get a number. Keep the old device/profile and its backup until the new one has passed your checks. If verification fails, the correct next action is investigation, not deleting the source.
Store private backups outside the public website
JSON and CSV exports are unencrypted. Personal backups can contain balances, stock symbols, payment references and account nicknames. Store them privately and do not include them in the hosting upload ZIP or a public link. Numbrite’s downloadable examples are intentionally fictional; that does not make your own exported files safe to publish.
Keep a dated version before major imports, corrections or browser cleanup, and another after the verified change. A backup habit is useful only if you can find the right file and restore the right tool. This workflow does not create cloud sync or a password-protected storage service.
