A practical decision, with assumptions you can inspect

Debt Payoff Planner: Avalanche vs Snowball

Compare repayment order, extra monthly cash and a one-off payment. See a reconciled monthly schedule before saving a local scenario.

How to use, check and interpret this tool ↓

Inputs begin with a fictional teaching example. Replace them with your figures; nothing is saved automatically.

1. Set the assumptions

Debts · MYR

Row 1
Row 2
Row 3

Amounts are MYR. This model uses monthly reducing-balance interest, not flat-rate car-loan quotations or daily card billing.

The monthly budget stays constant after a debt is paid. Extra money and released minimums roll to the next debt.

2. Keep a local record

Saving is explicit and shared by EN/ZH pages on this site origin only. It does not sync devices or alter any other Numbrite book. JSON backups are unencrypted.

How this calculation works

Interest, then payments

Each month starts with balance × nominal APR ÷ 12, rounded half up to cents per debt. Fixed minimums are capped at the amount due, then spare budget and the month-one lump follow the selected order. The lump is applied after first-month interest, not before it.

A schedule is not a lender promise

The example starts with MYR22,000 total debt and fixed minimums of MYR750. Adding MYR200 monthly gives a MYR950 budget: the avalanche example finishes in 26 months with MYR2,144.71 interest. Rates and minimums remain constant; actual daily interest, variable minimums, fees, arrears and settlement penalties are excluded.

Read incomplete paths honestly

Simulation stops after 720 months or a reported precision limit. A minimum below interest is flagged, but extra cash or rollover can still amortize the debt. No new borrowing, promotional rate expiry, creditor negotiation or automatic payment is modelled.

Use the result with confidence

Check an input before recording it

Begin with the labelled fictional example or replace the fields. Calculate to see the complete result and any shortfall. Editing an input hides the previous result until you calculate again. Saving records the inputs, not a bank transaction or an approval.

Keep the right local book

This tool can hold up to 20 saved records. Choose a record and press Load before editing it. Net-worth records use unique months and one base currency. A backup from another tool is rejected; restoration previews and confirms replacement of this book only.

Keep evidence you can understand

The calculated CSV contains the displayed model schedules, not a broker statement, tax filing or bank balance. JSON contains saved inputs and can hold private names and amounts. Store exports privately; clearing browser data or moving to another origin/device does not transfer records.
